Ive never been to Africa and I thought the descriptions of Gabys childhood were totally relatable I think the author did a wonderful job of showing how life in Burundi had the potential of being nearly paradisalat least from the perspective of a child I knew about the genocide in Rwanda but didnt know much about Burundi and was surprised to see that the killing spread to that country after Rwanda was stabilized Even though the book ends with tragedy I regard it as a beautiful tale
